In 1983, Sawtry Feast Committee donated £500 to the Parish Council for the provision of a village sign, to which the Parish Council agreed to add a further sum. Several drawings were submitted, showing a symbolic representation of Sawtry’s history, location and character. The sign was made by Mr Gowing, blacksmith of Soham, and placed on the Village Green in the summer of 1985. To commemorate the wedding of The Prince and Princess of Wales 29th July 1981.
The St. Andrew’s Cross, the All Saints Crown and the Star of David for St. Judith represent the original three ”Sawtry’s”, and all the other patterns and pictures used similarly have a meaning attached to the history of our village.
